The Importance of Replications and Report Preregistration for the Science and Practice of Psychology

Venue

This is a virtual event, accessible online and over the phone. Access instructions will be provided after registration.

Description

This webinar is in collaboration with APA’s Science Directorate.

Evidence-based practice in psychology requires that the scientific literature (i.e., evidence) be unbiased and accurate. However, the research shows the scientific literature in psychology suffers from publication bias and contains results that independent researchers cannot replicate. This webinar helps practitioners and researchers understand the importance of replications and report preregistration for reducing error and bias in the evidence base that guides psychological research and practice. Examples of application for practice and science in pediatric, schools, and educational settings are provided. Original webinar date: November 17, 2023. CC.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the importance of report preregistration and replications for shaping psychological knowledge and practice
  • Recognize how replications and report preregistration may help close the research to practice gap in psychology
