Understanding Behavioral Addictions

Recent diagnostic developments have given rise to the renewed conceptualization, assessment, and treatment of behavioral addictions. The official recognition of Gambling Disorder has been joined by the consideration of Online Gaming Disorder and wide range of other potential behavioral addictions from within the “Impulsive-Compulsive” spectrum of disorders. Cyber-porn addiction, sex addiction, Internet addiction, and compulsive overeating are joined by compulsive shopping, hoarding, and a range of technology-related additions to form the rapidly developing field of behavioral addictions. This workshop focuses on the full range of behavioral disorders, each accompanied by videotaped clinical interviews of individuals struggling with these disorders that illustrate key features that are the subject of clinical intervention. Greg J. Neimeyer, PhD

As a lifetime inductee into the Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars, much of Dr. Neimeyer’s career has been dedicated to teaching and training in the areas of psychodiagnosis and psychopathology.  His professional development trainings on the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) have been presented nationally and internationally in a wide variety of academic, community, and hospital contexts, as well as to mental health associations, agencies and organizations.  A Fellow of the American Psychological Association, Dr. Neimeyer is the recipient of its Award for Outstanding Achievement in Career and Personality Research. His trainings draw from his extensive clinical experience in medical residency training programs, VAMCs, university counseling centers, and private practice.
