At the core of telehealth is evidence-based clinical service delivery. This introductory webinar outlines key research that provides strong evidence-based models for psychological assessment and treatment. Basic competencies covered include referral processes, cultural issues, documentation requirements, safety protocols and how to effectively involve family members or friends. Common barriers such as telesupervisor reluctance, administrative disorganization, and anxieties about working with technology are addressed, along with possible solutions.

Marlene M. Maheu, PhD

Marlene M. Maheu, PhD has been a technology-focused pioneer since 1994. As the Executive Director of the Telebehavioral Health Institute, Inc., she has overseen the development and delivery of online training to professionals worldwide.

Dr. Maheu has served various organizations to assist with the development of technology-focused standards and guidelines, including the American Telemedicine Association, the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association. She serves as the Founder & Executive Director of the Telebehavioral Health Institute, which offers a Certificate in Telehealth. She is the CEO for the non-profit Coalition for Technology in Behavioral Science (CTiBS). She has authored five telehealth textbooks, including a text in press for graduate students; the APA-published, A Practitioner's Guide to Telemental Health: How to Conduct Legal, Ethical and Evidence-Based Telepractice (2016), and Career Paths in Telemental Health (2016).

Dr. Maheu consults with medical groups, clinics, agencies, schools, community mental health clinics and group practices as well as technology start-ups seeking to develop or expand telehealth services.
