In the third session of this live webinar series, the presenters address strategies for building communities of support when providing mental health services to immigrants, including DACA recipients. This includes reviewing models for working with immigrants across systems, for connecting with community resources, and for professional support as providers. The webinar includes a panel of DACA recipients and providers who provide their important perspectives.  Original webcast date: July 24, 2020.

Presenters

Dr. Germán Cadenas

Dr. Germán Cadenas is an Assistant Professor of Counseling Psychology at Lehigh University. His research focuses on the psychology of undocumented immigrants and underrepresented minorities, particularly their critical consciousness and its links to higher education outcomes, work and career development, and psychological wellbeing. He leads an Immigration Collaborative across 9 divisions of the American Psychological Association and the National Latinx Psychological Association, which brings together undocumented communities and psychologists nationwide. He identifies as an immigrant and is formerly undocumented.

Liliana Campos, M.S.

Liliana Campos, M.S. was born in Mexico City and crossed the border to the U.S. at the age of seven with her family. Liliana is a doctoral candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of San Francisco. Liliana received the 2020 WebMD Educator Health Hero award for her work on raising awareness about the impact of immigration status on health over the last 10 years. She is Immigrants Rising’s mental health advocate and 2020-2021 AB540/Undocumented Student doctoral intern at UC Davis.

Marithza Quiroz (Undocumented)

Marithza Quiroz is a graphic artist currently majoring in American Studies with an emphasis in Visual Culture, Media and Technology at UC Berkeley. She grew up in Sonora, Mexico and migrated to the United States at the age of 17 along with her parents. She learned English and design through community adult programs in Los Angeles and worked in the graphics industry for over 20 years. She loves museums, biking, and exploring the city on public transportation.

Jose Manuel Gonzáles Vera (DACA recipient)

Jose Manuel doctoral student in the Combined Clinical/Counseling Psychology Program at Utah State University. He earned his B.A. in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine. He currently works in Dr. Domenech Rodriguez's Lab, and his research interests broadly involve the undocumented community. Jose Manuel’s goal is to create a strength-based intervention for undocumented families. Outside of research, Jose Manuel is an avid competitive distance runner and a new dog owner.
