Venue

This is a virtual event, accessible online and over the phone. Access instructions will be provided after registration.

Description

This introductory workshop provides an orientation of how to understand methodological integrity in qualitative research methods with an eye toward design and publication. Participants learn key features of common qualitative methods and epistemological approaches to inquiry in psychology. The workshop considers the logic of qualitative methods so that participants can better design and execute studies that increase the fidelity and utility of their findings. Through the consideration of common problems and misunderstandings of qualitative methods, we consider how best to adapt procedures to specific question and participant characteristics and how to communicate with reviewers about methodological decisions.  Original webcast date: August 3, 2020.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss how research traditions and epistemological perspectives influence research design.
  2. Utilize the concepts of methodological integrity to consider research design.
  3. Compare qualitative research designs and how they fit with research goals and characteristics.
