This intermediate workshop presents current research and the latest clinical developments in the use of a mobile app in suicide prevention. The workshop brings together experts in suicide prevention from the Penn Center for the Prevention of Suicide and in the clinical applications of mobile health technologies from the National Center for PTSD. Participants gain theoretical and clinical understanding of the six-step safety-planning process and practice developing safety plans using the VA’s new safety-planning app module (freely available). Practice includes interacting with clients around technology and highlights ethics, privacy, and cultural considerations.  Original webcast date: August 3, 2020.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe empirical support for the safety-planning intervention as well as the integration of technology into mental health treatment.
  2. Create a digital version of the safety plan for a patient.
  3. Identify three considerations related to client preferences and cultural differences to consider when integrating technology into clinical care.
