In this introductory workshop, the presenter reviews and clarifies the often-confusing research regarding the relationship between mental illness and violence. Participants gain an understanding of how various factors increase and decrease the risk of future violence and how these factors are the same as, or different from, risk factors in individuals with a mental illness, particularly psychotic disorders. Participants also gain a better appreciation of ways to reduce the violence potential in mentally ill individuals. The focus is not on risk assessment measures but on the relationship between violence and mental illness and moderators of that relationship.  Original webcast date: August 4, 2020.
