This intermediate workshop provides strategies for effective teaching and training in psychological assessment, with a focus on teaching the more sophisticated and complex aspects of assessment, including an integrated and multimethod approach. The workshop incorporates the recently released APA guidelines addressing the various aspects expected for doctoral-level coursework and field training, as well as adaptations required for online teaching of assessment. Participants learn about different activities and resources useful in enhancing the early exposure of those in training to psychological testing and assessment and ways to enhance what they already use. Original webcast date: August 10, 2021

  • List the core components considered essential for psychological assessment teaching and training. 
  • Reorganize a training sequence to prioritize the higher level and critical components of assessment training.
  • Describe the common challenges in assessment training at the various levels and specific strategies to strengthen remote teaching and supervising.

Presenters

Hadas Pade, PsyD

Dr. Pade is an Assistant Professor and Assessment Center Co-Director at the California School of Professional Psychology, Alliant International University, San Francisco Bay Campus. She is currently the President Elect of the Assessment Section of Division 12 of APA. She has authored several book chapters and articles in the areas of assessment training, diversity, supervision, and report writing and regularly presents and co-facilitates workshops at the APA annual convention and the Society for Personality Assessment.

A. Jordan Wright, PhD, ABAP

Dr. Wright is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Psychology at New York University. He has numerous assessment focused presentations, led several APA assessment guidance documents, and held leadership positions with APA. He is the author of Conducting Psychological Assessment: A Guide for Practitioners, 2nd Ed. (2020), co-author of the sixth edition of the Handbook of Psychological Assessment (2016), editor of the Essentials of Psychological Assessment Supervision (2019), and lead author of the Essentials of Psychological Tele-Assessment (2021).
