This intermediate workshop views the APA Ethics Code as a guide for resolving complex ethical dilemmas through a process of ethical reasoning rather than as a “laundry list” of requirements and prohibitions. The presenters illustrate the approach to professional ethics in applications to two domains of ethics in practice that have significant intersections with clinical decision making, law, and risk management. First, a process of ethical reasoning is applied to “Back to the Future” areas of emerging practice. Then, issues are discussed at the intersection of ethics and law for psychologists in clinical or forensic practice when cases become court-involved. Original webcast date: August 11, 2021

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and apply an ethical decision-making model to practice.
  • Distinguish elements of bias for ethically responsive practice.
  • Identify issues for ethics and practice of emerging research and technology.
