Individuals with developmental disabilities, such as intellectual disability and autism require accurate and timely diagnosis to receive appropriate services and intervention. This workshop aims to provide up-to-date information on the current practice of developmental disabilities assessments. Case examples will be utilized as the facilitators break down the important components of a diagnostic evaluation, from reviewing records to direct testing and behavioral observation. The facilitators will discuss evidence-based case formulation, which is integral to a robust diagnostic report. Differential diagnosis will be highlighted. Various multicultural factors impacting the diagnostic evaluation will also be discussed. Original webinar date: November 5, 2021. CC

Presenters

Sheryll M. Casuga, PsyD

Dr. Casuga has been working at the Regional Center of the East Bay (RCEB), California since 2014, performing diagnostic and forensic evaluations in autism/intellectual disability. She received her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree from John F. Kennedy University. Her training included a practicum at Children's Hospital Oakland's Autism Intervention program and a predoctoral internship/postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD). She also serves as a Clinical Director of the Healthy Minds Program for the Special Olympics.

Nicole Kirsch, PsyD

Dr. Kirsch began working at Regional Center of the East Bay (RCEB) in 2017. She received her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree from John F. Kennedy University in 2013. Prior to her time at RCEB, she has specialized her work within the developmental disability community by previously supervising Applied Behavior Analysis treatment at Easter Seals Bay Area and completing her Pre-doctoral Internship at AHRC in New York City where she provided clinical services to individuals with Intellectual Disability and Autism.
