Psychodynamic Therapy Techniques

Venue

This is a virtual event, accessible online and over the phone. Access instructions will be provided after registration.

Description

Psychodynamic therapy (PDT) has a growing evidence base, is cost-effective, and may have unique mechanisms of change. Several good texts are available to help clinicians learn psychodynamic concepts and case formulation (e.g., Summers & Barber, 2010). However, relatively less attention has been devoted to teaching specific PDT techniques and how to use them with a broad range of clients and problems. Therefore, the primary goal of this webinar will be to help further demystify the practice of PDT by focusing specifically on “foundational” PDT techniques (e.g., use of silence) and the “classic” PDT techniques (e.g., clarification, confrontation, interpretation). Original webinar date: September 16, 2022. CC.

Learning Objectives

1. Describe the different intentions of the main psychodynamic techniques.

2. Design a psychodynamic interpretation.
