Venue

This is a virtual event, accessible online and over the phone. Access instructions will be provided after registration.

Description

Parents of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) report higher levels of stress and mental health problems than other parents. Targeted intervention requires assessment of risk and protective factors, including the parents’ adjustment to their child’s diagnosis. How a parent makes sense of what the autism diagnosis means for them, their child and their life may be a critical factor. In this webinar, evidence-based research of the ASD parent experience, the resulting models and recommended interventions are reviewed. Generalized case trajectories suggest pathways to facilitating post-traumatic growth. Original webinar date: November 10, 2023. CC.

Learning Objectives

  1. Assess the risk and protective factors, including adjustment to their child’s diagnosis, for ASD parents
  2. Identify intervention strategies appropriate for the ASD parent’s current presentation
