Description

APA is pleased to bring you the Public Service Series designed to enhance psychologists’ awareness of, and contribution to, other professionals who provide critical public service.

This webinar draws on the expertise of Clinical Psychologists with over 25 years combined experience working with the Emergency Responders. Dr. Gulliver will present an overview of a Clinician Training Protocol developed for one branch of Emergency Response (Fire Service) that has been pilot tested with three groups of clinicians. The program is designed for psychologists who are interested in working with emergency service members. It is ideal for clinicians working in private practice, behavioral health treatment programs, employee assistance programs, or those interested in collaboration with peer support teams. Content will focus on: 1) understanding the common barriers providers meet when attempting to deliver evidence-based care in these unique occupational cultures; 2) identifying foundational principles specific to the treatment of active duty emergency response members; 3) building a successful therapeutic alliance with challenging clients; and 4) applying best practices to achieve positive treatment outcomes with clients.

Learning Objectives

  1. Evaluate ability to work successfully with emergency responders and make informed decisions regarding developing an emergency responder specialty.
  2. Identify key aspects of emergency response culture that influence treatment engagement, thereby influencing important outcomes such as treatment engagement, participation and completion.
