Description

The presenters will summarize the clinical, research, and policy landscape of Long COVID as it pertains to psychologists and the current healthcare environment. They will describe Long COVID presentations and psychological/neuropsychological profiles in pediatric populations. The presenters will discuss how Long COVID neuropsychiatric symptoms manifest across ethnoracially diverse populations, with consideration for health disparities and social determinants of health that shape adult and pediatric patient outcomes. Lastly, the presenters will discuss the role of psychologists as advocates and care providers for this chronic illness population that has been stigmatized.

Presenters

Jacqueline Becker, PhD

Jacqueline Becker, PhD, is a clinical neuropsychologist, Assistant Professor of Medicine, and health services researcher in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Becker is MPI of the NIH's RECOVER-Neuro, a multisite randomized controlled trial to treat cognitive dysfunction post COVID-19. She is PI of a NIH/National Institute for Mental Health randomized controlled trial to treat comorbid cognitive dysfunction and depression in persons with Long COVID, PI of an Alzheimer's Association/National Academy of Neuropsychology award investigating the neuropsychological effects of COVID-19 in older adults from populations with health disparities.

Christine Koterba, PhD, ABPP

Christine H. Koterba, PhD, ABPP, is a Pediatric Neuropsychologist at Nationwide Children's Hospital and a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University. She is the attending inpatient neuropsychologist at NCH and provides neuropsychological consultation and assessment in inpatient and outpatient settings. She is also involved in the pre- and post-doctoral neuropsychological training programs. Her clinical interests include pediatric neuropsychology, acute recovery from brain injury, illnesses (COVID-19, long COVID), and other conditions that impact neurological functioning, and pediatric rehabilitation.

Kristen Hoskinson, PhD

Dr. Hoskinson is a licensed Pediatric Neuropsychologist based in Columbus, Ohio. She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics, with Tenure, at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and is Principal Investigator of her lab in the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Her newer line of research is focused on neurologic manifestations of SARS CoV-2 infection, including multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) and long COVID, and contributions of the COVID-19 pandemic to behavioral, cognitive, and social outcomes in children and adolescents.
